‘Glass of wine a day could slash risk of heart attack or stroke

A GLASS of wine each day may keep the doctor away by reducing the risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, research has suggested once more.

A Spanish study investigated the effect of the alcoholic drink in people at high risk of cardiac issues and following a Mediterranean-style diet.

Those who drank between half a glass and one glass daily were 50% less likely to suffer a serious cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke than those who drank very little or no wine.

And researchers claim the beneficial effect can be even greater than cholesterolbusting drugs statins.
