UNMASKED:EVIL MONSTERS WHO KILLED BRIANNA
Daily Express
|February 03, 2024
THE sadistic young murderers of Brianna Ghey were jailed for life yesterday as the schoolgirl's family branded them a "pair of monsters".
Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, whose identities were revealed for the first time, will serve at least 22 and 20 years.
But a judge warned the 16-year-olds they would only ever be freed when "you no longer present a danger".
Trans teen Brianna, inset, was stabbed 28 times with a hunting knife after the pair, who were obsessed with serial killers, lured her to a Cheshire park. Her body was found face down in the mud on February 11 last year.
Jenkinson and Ratcliffe had their identities shielded by the law during their four-week trial. But yesterday the judge lifted their anonymity, saying both were partly driven by transphobia.
Brianna's parents told the sentencing hearing that her killers should never be released, since they still posed a threat to society. Their attack when they were both aged just 15 in Linear Park near Warrington was described to Manchester Crown Court as "frenzied and ferocious".
Jenkinson, of Warrington, was given life with a minimum 22 years.
While "highly intelligent" Ratcliffe, from Leigh, Greater Manchester, was also caged for life and was told he would serve at least 20 years.
Neither showed any reaction as the sentences were passed but their families wept in the gallery.
Mrs. Justice Yip concluded that Jenkinson had been driven by her "deep desire" to kill, while Ratcliffe was "motivated in part by hostility towards Brianna because she was transgender".
Ratcliffe used "dehumanizing" language, referring to Brianna as "it" and speculating if she would scream "like a man or a girl".
The judge added that because each murderer was aware of the motivations of the other, she considered them both to be partly driven by transphobia.
