TV star Sharon's threat to run against terrorist in local election as fury erupts

A CONVICTED terrorist has sparked widespread fury by running to be a Birmingham city councillor ~ with TV star Sharon Osbourne threatening to stand against him.
The widow of Brummie music legend Ozzy Osbourne said she was “serious” about opposing Shahid Butt, who was jailed in 1999 for planning attacks on Western targets including the British consulate in Yemen. He insisted he was tortured into making a false confession.
Sharon, 73, posted on social media yesterday: “This has nothing to do with racism.
“I'm gonna move to Birmingham and put my name down for the ballot to be on the council. I'm serious.”
Mr Butt, 60, has said he regretted mistakes he made as a young man but believed he was now “above the standard” needed for public life.
However, the independent candidate for the Sparkhill ward in May's local elections said in a YouTube interview last year that committed then a body known as a Channel Panel, involving police, the local council and social services, will consider whether to offer support, such as mentoring.
