ENGLAND IN A HURRY TO RUN UP 400-PLUS

Toss error punished by Pope's six of best

OLLIE POPE enjoyed a day of fun in the sun as England ran riot at Trent Bridge.

The right-hander collected his sixth Test century to leave West Indies reeling.

No.3 Pope clobbered 121 on an opening day that Kraigg Brathwaite will want to forget.

The tourists' skipper was looking for a reaction to the mauling at Lord's. But, after winning the toss, he inexplicably asked England to bat. Under a clear blue sky, Pope and his colleagues cashed in to pass the 400 mark.

They benefitted from Brathwaite's dubious decision plus a string of dropped catches, misfields and a missed stumping that helped Ben Stokes' men build a strong platform.
