Tory MP's cousin 'tried to throw ex down well'

THE cousin of a Tory MP attempted to murder his former partner by trying to throw her down a deep well on his estate, a court has heard.

Douglas Clifton Brown, 56, is said to have attacked Camilla Welby after a party at a friends' house before she fought back and choked him.

The Old Etonian is alleged to have driven Miss Welby to the well on High House Estate near Congham, Norfolk, and tried to drag her into it.

Douglas Clifton Brown, who has denied attempted murder, is the cousin of Geoffrey Clifton-Brown the Conservative MP for North Cotswolds and chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

Choked

The attempted murder trial was told the accused and Miss Welby had been in a relationship for about 15 years. They were separated when they rowed in the car as they were heading back from a friends' house at about 10.30pm on August 12, 2023.
