Tories will scrap fossil fuel car ban

The Tory leader said the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate was a “well-meaning but ultimately destructive piece of legislation” and scrapping it would create “space” to rebuild the nation’s car industry.

From 2030, all new cars must be electric or hybrid as part of government efforts to meet a legally binding aim of “net zero” by 2050.

Mrs Badenoch said the EU had hinted it would drop a full ban, adding its “change cles without first securing our own battery and mineral supply chains”.
