Taliban stops Afghanistan women from leaving to study abroad

THE Taliban has stopped female students travelling abroad to attend university as it continues to severely limit women's freedoms and access to education.

Girls in Afghanistan have been banned from attending secondary school or university and seen their rights increasingly eroded since the fall of Kabul in August 2021.

Around 100 Afghan women have reportedly been awarded scholarships in Dubai - including some who were living abroad.

But around 60 were said to have been stopped from flying last month, including some who were accompanied by male family or friends.

One devastated 20-year-old told BBC Afghan: "My only hope was to get a scholarship which would help me study abroad.
