Stop and search confusion

POLICE chiefs have rejected calls to reclassify how they record stop and search to avoid accusations of racism, the Daily Express can reveal.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp wrote to the National Police Chiefs' Council and College of Policing to urge officers to compare search rates against the “offending population”, rather than the whole public.

This would allow them to make the argument about the importance of the tactic to combat knife crime, he said.
