Sheila can read again as chip restores sight

A BOOKWORM who lost her sight 15 years ago can read and do crosswords again thanks to a bionic eye implant.
Renewed optimism...Sheila with the glasses that help turn data into letters
Sheila Irvine, 70, volunteered to take part in the world-first trial to help blind people in the future.
She had a chip measuring 2mm by 2mm put behind one of her retinas during an op at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. And she was given augmented-reality glasses fitted with a video camera, which the chip uses to beam data to a pocket computer.
