ROYAL Mail has delayed plans to ditch second-class deliveries on Saturdays more widely across the UK until early next year, the CEO has said.

- BY KATIE ELLIOTT

It has been running a pilot across 35 delivery offices to overhaul its letter services, including getting rid of second-class post on Saturdays and every other weekday.

The group was given the green light by regulator Ofcom to start making the reforms from the end of July.

But its owner, International Distribution Services, yesterday said it would delay rolling out the new regime more widely until early 2026.

Ofcom fined Royal Mail £21million last month for missing its annual first and second-class mail delivery targets, resulting in millions of letters arriving late. It was the third-largest fine ever imposed by the watchdog.
