Sarkozy facing jail over 'Gaddafi deal'

FORMER French leader Nicolas Sarkozy faced the threat of jail yesterday as he was accused of accepting £42million from Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi.
A court heard Sarkozy, 69, took the cash - laundered through banks in Panama and Switzerland - to fund his successful election campaign in 2007.
In return, he allegedly pledged to boost Libya's image after it was blamed for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and the 1984 murder of PC Yvonne Fletcher outside the oil state's London embassy. Sarkozy is on trial in Paris with 12 others, including two of his former ministers.
