DEMAND for pricey British wagyu beef has soared with sales more than doubling in a year.

And breeders say growth shows no signs of slowing with farmers enjoying higher returns.

Although more expensive in the shops, wagyu beef is famous for its tenderness and high fat marbling which is said to give it a unique flavour and texture.

The cattle breed - which originated in Japan - enjoy a diet rich in grains and get extra care to minimise stress, breeders claim.
