Rishi: We're fired up and hungry to win

The Prime Minister said he was "entirely confident" the Tories could triumph when the country next heads to the polls, which is expected to be next year.

Mr Sunak will this showcase Britain on the world stage at the G20 summit in India.

He said: "We've got plenty of time between now and the next election. I'm not complacent weekend "There's lots of work to do but I'm entirely confident we can deliver for people.

"And I can tell you - certainly in Downing Street, we are fired up.

"As you can see we've brought some new people in, these are very high quality people that are joining the team because they believe that we will win they are hungry to win, I am hungry to win, and they are fired up to deliver it."

Former government special adviser Jamie Njoku-Goodwin was hired as No 10's director of strategy following the departure of former ITV journalist Amber de Botton.

Mr Sunak received a boost when the Tories held the London seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip in a recent by-election following Boris Johnson's resignation as an MP.

It came amid a backlash against Labour Mayor of London Sadiq Khan's ULEZ charge.

Growth

Mr Sunak, greeted in India by minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, said: "I am entirely confident that we can win the next election. You had a sense of that just a couple of months ago in Uxbridge.

"That is not a by-election any of us expected us to win... but when voters were confronted with an actual choice between us and the Labour Party on an issue of substance, what did they do? They voted for us."
