Ride out the Trump bump
Daily Express
|April 16, 2025
STOCK markets may have calmed this week but pension values have taken a beating and it could only take one word from Donald Trump to whip up the volatility again.
For older savers approaching or in retirement, this is unsettling, but Craig Rickman, personal finance expert at Interactive Investor, said the key is not to panic. "Turn down the noise and focus on things you can control."
Here are his five tips to help you manage your pension during periods of market instability.
1. Stay calm and spread your risk
Rickman recommends savers and investors spread their money across a mix of assets, sectors, and geographies. "If some areas of your portfolio are struggling, others may support them." Avoid reacting emotionally to market drops. "Instead, make sure investments are balanced and aligned with your risk tolerance and retirement timeline."
2. Check if your pension is affected
