FARAGE ACCUSES PM OF PANDERING TO LEFT

- By Jonathan Walker Whitehall Editor

SIR Keir Starmer’s plan to recognise a Palestinian state was slammed for lacking “any sense of morality” as the Prime Minister was accused of pandering to the Left.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said the promise “rewards terrorism” and warned it could create a state run by Hamas, which he said was “dedicated” to obliterating Israel.

Sir Keir last night responded to criticism by insisting he is committed to ensuring the terror group releases hostages it has been holding since they were seized in its attack on October 7, 2023.

Ministers denied claims that recognising Palestine at this point would breach international law.

The PM announced on Tuesday the UK would recognise the state of Palestine before the United Nations General Assembly met in September “unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, agree to a ceasefire and commit to a longterm, sustainable peace, reviving the prospect of a two-state solution”.

Terror

He said the measure was designed to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by Israel’s military campaign, which followed a terror attack by Hamas that killed 1,195 people.
