Nick Robinson's tears: 'I didn't think I was good enough to host Today'
Daily Express
|October 10, 2023
NICK Robinson said he cried after his first day hosting Radio 4's Today programme because he didn't think he was "good enough" for the job as he recovered from cancer.
The BBC presenter's voice may have been affected by a neuroendocrine tumour in his lungs which he had removed early in 2015.
He returned to work that autumn after an operation, perhaps in part because it was an election year.
Nick, 60, said: "My first day was pretty memorable, not very relaxing. I just had cancer. Good news, the cancer had gone, but the voice had also gone. Frankly, I should've given a bit longer to recover.
"There had been a terrorist attack in Paris, a bomb had gone off. The [then] Prime Minister David Cameron agreed to come on to react and that was my very first interview. And as I started the interview, I thought my voice is just not performing.
