NHS urgently needs 1m new blood donors

THE NHS has put out a call for one million new blood donors as stocks have plummeted.

Last year officials had to issue an amber alert over supply for hospitals.

And they say more must be done to avoid a red alert, which means the supply is so low that there is a threat to public safety.

The past year saw just 2% of the population keep the nation’s blood stocks afloat.
