Nature watchdog 'worried' about cuts in spending

THE wildlife watchdog is “concerned” about cutbacks in cash for nature restoration in the Chancellor's spending review.
Tony Juniper, chair of Natural England, said he is braced for a “very tight” settlement on June 11.
It comes as environmentalists have criticised proposed changes to nature protections in the planning bill and recent reports that the budget for nature-friendly farming will be slashed.
Mr Juniper said yesterday: “I am concerned about the budget side in particular because the job that we need to do is very significant.”
He cited official nature targets such as committing to protect 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030.
