Locals in shock after girl, seven, dies in tragedy at park
FLORAL tributes and cuddly toys have been laid in tribute to a seven-year-old girl who died after a large tree fell down in a busy park.
Police remain at Chalkwell Park in Southend, Essex, following the tragedy which took place just before 3pm on Saturday.
The seven-year-old youngster suffered serious injuries and died in hospital, while a six-year-old girl remains in a critical condition.
Locals left flowers alongside teddy bears and a pink unicorn yesterday.
One message said: “So very sorry. Rest in peace beautiful baby girl.”
Witnesses said they heard a “loud crack” come from the tree — thought to be one of the oldest in the park — before it fell. They ran to help after hearing screams.

Maso Bowles, who was coaching at the cricket nets, gave first aid.
