Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but many Britons have a funny idea of what that actually means in practice, with thousands taking the opportunity to do some financial planning, even on the big day itself. Between swapping gifts, enjoying the odd drink and keeping an eye on the turkey, many of us sneak in a bit of money management too.

Last year, more than 40,000 people filed their self-assessment tax return between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
