LONDON BRIDGE, C1880
In the early 19th century, heavily laden carts crossed the congested medieval bridge. John Rennie's five-arched stone bridge won a competition for a new design and opened in 1831.
LYCEUM THEATRE, 1909
BUILT in 1834, the Lyceum was one of London's leading theatres.
Threatened by closure, it was rebuilt in 1904 but retained the portico of the original theatre. Today, it is a flourishing venue home to The Lion King Musical.
13 & 14 ARCHER STREET, SOHO, 1908
THE upper floors of many Soho houses were given over to workshops.
Here, two women are engaged in upholstery-making for the furniture trade using traditional spinning wheels.
