James' knack of nipping in from wing can spark England

LAUREN James is shaping up to be Sarina Wiegman's ace-in-the-pack.

With England's World Cup opener against Haiti on Saturday, it is almost time for head coach Wiegman to show her hand and the chances are the young Chelsea playmaker will be in it.

The Dutchwoman used James ahead of Chloe Kelly out wide and also thrust her in a more central role in the dress rehearsal against Portugal this month.

Wiegman has plenty of options up front but appears to favour a formation with James.

The 21-year-old started in the Finalissima against Brazil in April and with England scoring just once in their past three inspiration in attack is needed.

Her likely matches, partner on the opposite flank, Lauren Hemp, said: "LJ likes to cut inside and shoot she can get past players. She also can use her strength to see if she can rob the ball back.

"She brings something different. Me, Chloe and Katie Robinson like taking players out wide.

"Sometimes, I'll cut in but LJ can do both. She brings something different and unique.
