Killer executed by nitrogen gas 'shook violently' for 22 minutes

AMERICA'S first nitrogen gas execution was criticised yesterday after the prisoner involved took 22 minutes to die.
Killer Kenneth Smith, 58, convulsed and writhed uncontrollably while strapped to a gurney as he was put to death at the Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama.
One witness described the execution as "the most horrible thing I've ever seen".
Smith, who had survived a previous execution bid by lethal injection in 2022, was one of two men convicted over the killing of a preacher's wife in 1988.
