It's simply magical... Harry Potter debut 'greatest ever'
Daily Express
|July 31, 2023
HARRY Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has been chosen as the greatest debut novel of all time.
Almost one in three readers (31%) named JK Rowling's work as their favourite by a first-time author.
Published in 1997, the book kicked off a series of seven stories about boy wizard Harry - and inspired a multi-million pound film franchise.
The Philosopher's Stone has sold 107 million copies globally in 73 languages.
It beat Harper Lee's 1960 drama To Kill A Mockingbird and JRR Tolkien's 1937 fantasy The Hobbit (both 26%) in a list of best-loved debuts.
