Isle of Man first in Britain to legalise assisted dying

THE Isle of Man has become the first place in the British Isles to legalise assisted dying, after a landmark bill passed its final parliamentary vote.

After years of debate, scrutiny and amendments, the island’s Legislative Council voted to approve the final changes, meaning the bill will now go for Royal Assent.

Isle of Man campaigner Millie Blenkinsop-French, 81, said she was “over the moon” that others would not have to suffer the “horrific death” her son endured.

James, 51, had been diagnosed with squa-mous cell carcinoma after finding a pea-sized lump in his neck.
