I AM THE WORST DETECTIVE EVER
Daily Express
|November 22, 2025
In 11 years, there have been 78 murders and 77 of them have been solved by the vicar...
ROBSON Green admits the veteran police officer he plays in Grantchester has an appalling track record when it comes to solving crimes, but that hasn’t stopped the show being adored by its fans.
And as the ITV drama approaches its end, Robson, who stars as Detective Inspector Geordie Keating, chats about why the series is so popular with both its viewers and its cast and crew.
One reason could be its clergymen played through the years by James Norton, Tom Brittney and Rishi Nair who are the real sleuths of the Cambridgeshire village.
Robson, 60, says: “In the past 11 years, there have been 78 murders in the quintessential, quiet, peaceful and sedate English village of Grantchester.
“Of the 78 murders, 77 of them have been solved by the vicar, which makes me the worst detective in history.
“So next year I am going to have a change I am playing a serial killer in January. That is my next job!”
Filming wrapped on the final 11th series of Grantchester last month, with the show coming to a close in 2027. But first we have series 10, out next year. Robson says the job has been a joy.
“To turn up on a set where you just feel good about yourself, that is what I'll miss. We looked after the show and it looked after us all,” he says.
He was speaking alongside other cast members and show bosses at Cambridge’s Magdalene College. All agreed that filming around the city has helped to make Grantchester a global hit.
