Hundreds of billions lies rotting in UK's 0% interest accounts

BRITONS are being urged to avoid leaving large sums sitting in current accounts where they earn little or no interest, steadily eroding the value of their money in real terms.

More than 6.5 million current accounts containing balances over £10,000 earn zero interest, new research from savings app Spring reveals.
The average balance in these accounts is £35,428. If that money were moved into a savings account paying 4%, it would earn £1,417 in the first year.
Some savers lose far more. Around 340,000 current accounts hold over £100,000, with the total balance in accounts paying zero interest now a staggering £230billion.
