A GREAT-grandfather died in agony after a piece of catheter was left inside him for over two years.
Dementia patient James Giles, 85, was ravaged by infections and suffered sepsis after the 4in tube snapped inside his urethra in November 2021.
It then remained lodged inside him until it was finally spotted in a CT scan and removed last April, but Mr Giles died just three months later.
At the time of his death he weighed just 5st, having lost 13st from his 6ft frame as a result of multiple infections which left him struggling to eat.
Grandson Aidan Giles, 33, said: “We were shocked and devastated when we found out. It was in his urethra and it was stuck in there and went to the edge of his bladder.
