THE King yesterday greeted a mischievous pony who once tried to nibble Prince Harry's fingers and took a chunk out of a bouquet of flowers the late Queen was holding.
Charles, 75, stroked the pony during his official welcome to Balmoral. The Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, waited in line to be inspected by the King - each wearing a green kilt, long red socks, a checked jacket and waistcoat plus a brown leather sporran.
A company member leaned forward apparently to encourage his colleagues during the line-up.
Charles petted the infantry's mascot, the playful Shetland pony Cruachan IV, tentatively letting the pony sniff his hand before stroking him. The animal was presented to The Royal Regiment in 2012 and undertook his first official engagement in 2013.
