Gorst plays the villain

- Neil Squires

FEDOR AIMING TO TURN THE TABLES

FEDOR GORST will line up at Alexandra Palace for the United States tonight knowing he will be public enemy No.1 at the Mosconi Cup.

The 23-year-old from Moscow represented Europe in the 2020 edition of pool’s Ryder Cup but has turned his back on the continent and pledged his allegiance to the USA, having recently been granted permanent residency.

Imagine Rory McIlroy draping himself in the Stars and Stripes and you have some idea of the rumpus in the pool world.

Gorst said: “Most of the Americans took it really well. You kind of have to understand the Europeans. They lost a player and it’s something that has never happened before.

“There were some negative comments about it. That’s OK for me. I expected that.
