Farage wins apology as banks told to respect free speech

MINISTERS have clamped down on "unfair" bank account closures in plans to protect free speech
There was an uproar when prestigious private bank Coutts closed. Nigel Farage's accounts two weeks ago apparently because he "did not align" with its values.
Dame Alison Rose, CEO of NatWest which owns Coutts, issued a grovelling apology to the former Ukip leader last night.
The Treasury said banks will now be forced to explain and delay any decision to shut an account.
Notice time given to customers will be raised from one month to 90 days.
The changes can only be made because of powers which give Britain control of its financial rulebook following Brexit.
