Empty house energy bill mystery resolved

HOW could an empty house rack up an £800 energy bill and who might be the culprit? Celia Lloyd contacted Crusader after receiving the shock demand for the home her frail mum Lucy had left a couple of months before.
Celia, who is authorised to handle affairs for her mum now contending with early-stage dementia, was at a loss as she had thought it was all on track regarding payments to supplier Octopus while the house was being sold.
"I spoke to Octopus in November, gave a meter reading, and understood the balance was then zero. The fact that the property was empty was noted as direct debits would be stopped and I would not need to send another reading until January," she said.
