EMOTIONAL RETURN FOR AINSWORTH

GARETH AINSWORTH got back to work to oversee a first League Two victory for GILLINGHAM after five winless matches.

It was announced in late September that the 52-year-old (above) would have heart surgery and he returned to see Max Clark's goal secure a 1-0 win over BRISTOL ROVERS.

Ainsworth, who relayed messages to his coaching staff by phone, said: “I had an emotional moment up in the gantry there. Being back is a big thing for me.

“All the staff, that win is for them - they've stepped up when I've not been there and they've had it rough.”
