SCIENTISTS have reconstructed the brain of a 233-million-year-old ancestor of the first flying reptiles in a bid to explain how flight evolved.
Venetoraptor was a 33cm wingless creature with a beak and long fingers. It could not fly but clung to treetop branches with scythe-like claws.
As a precursor to early pterosaurs - the first vertebrates with powered flight - experts are using its fossilised remains to chart their evolution.
