Death threats to MPs 'undermine our democracy'

ABUSE threats and intimidation towards MPs is stifling democracy, a cross-party inquiry has found.

It found there was “an extremely high turnover of MPs” who quit prior to last year’s general election.

And it was revealed nearly half said that threatening behaviour caused anxiety or depression with a similar number feeling unsafe.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, who is leading the inquiry called the Speaker's Conference, warned that “abuse and attacks” are “stifling debate and weakening democracy”.
