THE hospital and nursing home regulator was slammed by campaigners last night for its shallow attempts to rebuild shattered trust.

CQC's 'vague promises will do little to restore trust'

It comes months after the Care Quality Commission - branded "not fit for purpose" by the Health Secretary begged for help in defining what good care means, as the Daily Express exclusively reported.

The revelation followed an independent probe which found a catalogue of failures at the heart of a quango whose purpose is to drive up standards of care.

Dr Penny Dash laid bare what families had been saying for years as they demanded the watchdog acted on their concerns, branding it "ineffective" and "toothless". Her interim report uncovered significant failings which have led to a substantial loss of credibility and a deterioration in the ability of the CQC to identify poor performance and support a drive to improve quality.
