China spy suspect had £4,000 cash in suitcase

A SUSPECT in the collapsed China spy case was held at Heathrow with £4,000 in a suitcase, it has emerged.

Christopher Berry was stopped by police under terror laws after flying in from China in February 2023.

Six weeks later the academic from Witney, Oxon, was formally arrested on suspicion of spying for China.

Mr Berry was believed to have been given the cash by a Chinese intelligence handler known as Alex.

Investigations uncovered Mr Berry’s connection to Parliamentary researcher Chris Cash.
