Caution on bank rates cuts will be tonic, says Pill

THE Bank of England’s chief economist has renewed calls for interest rates to be cut at a “more cautious pace” - adding to the likelihood the bank rate may be held at 4% for the foreseeable future.

Huw Pill said efforts to lower inflation over the past year had been “disappointing” as he pointed to the effect taxes had in raising prices. Inflation is forecast to be 4% for September.
