CAMPAIGNERS FOR THE ELDERLY SLAM BBC'S DECISION TO AXE TELEPHONE VOTING

CAMPAIGNERS for older people have hit out at the BBC after it axed telephone voting on Strictly Come Dancing.

The broadcaster says the phone-in system is outdated and costly, and is urging viewers to vote online via their BBC accounts instead.

But the Silver Voices campaign group said the decision sidelines older people, and shows how the corporation is treating them with "arrogant disdain".

Director Dennis Reed said: "The fury over the axing of telephone voting on popular shows on the BBC is completely justified.
