Boot out those who 'come here to hate'

AUSTRALIA has done something Britain seems incapable of doing — it acted. No dithering, no endless legal gymnastics, no hand-wringing about hurt feelings.

A 43-year-old British national, who had lived in Queensland for nearly two decades, was arrested earlier this month after allegedly posting Nazi swastikas online, promoting pro-Nazi ideology and calling for violence against the Jewish community.

He was placed in immigration detention in Brisbane and is due in court in January.

And then came the line that would cause a minor nervous breakdown in Whitehall. Australian home affairs minister Tony Burke said, plainly and unapologetically: “He came here to hate — he doesn’t get to stay.”
