Flat residents who will lose out blame left-wing stupidity
MOVES to turn residents' car parking into a travellers' site have been blasted as "harebrained" by locals.
Islington Council wants to turn the 10-bay car park for people in flats into a site with a static caravan, a single-story amenity building with kitchen, bathroom and utilities, and space for a touring caravan and a car.
It is one of 13 permanent pitches the Labour-held authority in North London is mooting.
But residents of the Gambier House flats believe that the plans target the working classes.
Kathleen Meeks, 80, moved into the block with husband Dennis, 81, in 1968 when it was new.
She said: "This wouldn't happen in other boroughs. Can you imagine this in Kensington? They wouldn't even consider it.
