Mum's formal complaint after inquiry revelation

- BY SOPHIE ROBINSON

Accessing footage of Notts attacks 'should be criminal matter'

THE mother of a student killed by paranoid schizophrenic Valdo Calocane has formally complained to Nottinghamshire Police after an inquiry heard that staff unlawfully accessed body-worn camera footage.

The Nottingham Inquiry was told there has not been a probe into who looked at images from the attacks without a policing purpose.

Emma Webber, mum of victim Barnaby, 19, called for an investigation and for the breach to be “considered as a criminal matter”.

She said: “It is only in the past few days of the statutory inquiry that the full seriousness of this misconduct has been revealed.

“I have now made a formal complaint. The level of distress this has caused is unimaginable. I do not believe the misconduct investigations carried out so far have been properly or adequately handled.”

The inquiry is scrutinising events before and after the fatal stabbings of Barnaby, his university friend Grace O’Malley-Kumar, also 19, and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65.
