KEVIN SINFIELD thinks England should light up the north by playing a Test outside of London and give rugby union a shot in the arm.

England are training in York and are expecting up to 9,000 fans for an open session just outside town today as they prepare to meet Italy in the Six Nations a week on Sunday.

The last game they played in the north was a World Cup warm-up against Italy in 2019, at Newcastle's St James' Park, which drew a 50,157 crowd.

England have played at Old Trafford, in 1997 and 2009, but taking a match away from the newly-sponsored Twickenham, which sells 82,000 tickets for nearly every game, would hit the RFU in the pocket.
