Rash Gordon misses final and Magpies out of Cup

- John Cross

A PARK DAY FOR TOON

WHAT an incredible advert this game was for the FA Cup - and a seriously bad day for Newcastle.

The Magpies crashed out of the FA Cup and had Anthony Gordon sent off, which will rule him out of the Carabao Cup final, while a gruelling 120 minutes left others playing on one leg.

A bonkers fifth-round tie was decided by a wonderful piece of quality from Brighton's supersub Danny Welbeck, who left the pocket of away fans singing about Wembley.

The visitors were terrific as Newcastle's hoodoo struck again. Brighton have beaten them in their past five meetings in the FA Cup and this was their second win at St James' Park this season.

It was no more than they deserved. They had 21 shots to Newcastle's 15, but both teams finished the game with 10 men as Tariq Lamptey was also sent off after a second yellow card for a clumsy foul in the 91st minute.

And yet that did not come close to Gordon's moment of madness.
