270,000 'sandwich carers' suffering from depression

MORE than a quarter of a million of the most stretched carers have been diagnosed with depression.
An estimated 273,000 people who look after a sick, disabled or elderly relative as well as children have the condition.
This is almost one in five or 19% of the 1.44 million so-called sandwich carers.
Some 16% struggle financially and 8% have run out of food in the past year, showed House of Commons Library research for the Liberal Democrats.
