21 years for rage-fuelled attack
Daily Express
|December 17, 2025
AN ex-Royal Marine was yesterday jailed for at least 21 years after driving into Liverpool FC fans at a victory parade, injuring 134.
Rage-fuelled Paul Doyle, 54, used his car as a “weapon” to drive through screaming supporters on May 26, with many fearing they were caught up in a terrorist attack.
Liverpool crown court heard Doyle was consumed by “anger” as he tried to travel down closed roads to pick up friends who were celebrating the team’s Premier League title win.
Married father-of-three Doyle wept in the dock as disturbing dashcam footage from his Ford Galaxy showed terrified fans bouncing off the bonnet of his car, or falling underneath as he zoomed down the temporarily pedestrianised Water Street. He was heard yelling “move” and even swore at a 10-year-old girl after hitting her.
Hero Daniel Barr, 41, eventually leapt inside the car and forced its automatic gear selector into park, ending the carnage. Of the 134 injured supporters, the youngest was just six months old.
Devastation
Later, Doyle told police: “I’ve just ruined my family’s life.”
And, just before his trial was due to start last month, with a jury already sworn in, he changed his pleas to guilty.
He admitted 17 charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, nine counts of causing GBH with intent and three counts of wounding with intent, dangerous driving and affray.
