Daily Express
|September 11, 2024
MOSCOW burned amid the heaviest aerial attack of Russia's war with Ukraine as more than 100 drones rained down on the capital.
A woman aged 46 was killed and at least three people were injured, while city airports suspended all flights for seven hours.
As the US again warned that Iran has been arming the Kremlin's forces, one downed Ukrainian unmanned craft sparked a huge blaze at Zhukovsky airport.
Another hit flats in the Ramenskoye district of Moscow.
The audacious drone assault which is likely to have further infuriated Russia's President Vladimir Putin - also blitzed other cities including Bryansk, Lipetsk, Tula, Kursk and Kaluga.
Kazan, some 550 miles east of Moscow, also restricted flights from its main airport.
In the capital, emergency workers retrieved the woman's body from a damaged tower block.
Another resident who lives in the skyscraper said: "I saw a fireball [and] managed to cover my wife...It was just a second.
"A bang and the window was blown out. We were all scared and ran in panic."
