SKY BLUES OWNER MAKES TRANSFER ADMISSION FOR FINAL WEEK OF WINDOW

- By ANDY TURNER Sky Blues Reporter

DOUG King has revealed that he hopes to add a bit of “icing to the cake” of Frank Lampard’s squad in the final week of the summer transfer window.

Coventry City’s owner dubbed the current group of players a “great squad” in a hastily arranged press conference - 50 minutes before kick off to Saturday's 7-1 thrashing of QPR - to discuss his acquisition of the CBS Arena from Mike Ashley's Frasers Group.

Taking the opportunity ask the executive chairman about transfers ahead of the final week of the summer window and whether new revenue streams from the purchase of the stadium will help fund quality on the pitch in the future, he told the Coventry Telegraph: “It’s interesting you say the business that we're going to make from the stadium and then transfers for millions of pounds of players. I mean, the reality is, right, if you're going to invest in players it has to be externally funded today - just for the record - because we don’t make a profit.

“So it (transfers) isn’t coming out of the business and whether I've got the Arena or not, we don't make a profit. So it has to be externally funded.
