THE Premier League and Football Association has given a huge £1.3m boost to sport in a Warwickshire town.

- By CLAIRE HARRISON

Cash has also been provided by the government's Football Foundation as well as North Warwickshire Borough Council for the new facility in Atherstone.

It will pave the way for Atherstone Sports Club to provide a 3G football pitch, which will also be suitable for a range of rugby activities, including senior training, junior matches and training, touch rugby and walking rugby.

It will also pay for renovations to be made to the changing rooms at its Ratcliffe Road site.

The new facility will be only the second publicly available 3G pitch in the borough and can offer year-round use for football and other sports.

It is hoped that it will be not only be used by existing teams but also create opportunities for wider sections of the community.
