Plan ahead warning as Christmas rush on the roads begins

THE AA has advised motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys in what could be the busiest Christmas on record.
This comes after a new AA survey pinpointed Friday, December 19 as one of the busiest days.
With 72% of respondents planning to travel that day (equating to 24.4 million cars), the AA issued an Amber Traffic Warning for the festive period.
Christmas Eve is expected to see a slight drop in journeys, and even quieter on Christmas Day, but there is still a significant number of people expected to travel.
The AA survey also reveals that most drivers are staying local for the second year in a row, with the majority planning trips of less than 50 miles.
This trend will likely increase congestion around retail hotspots and motorway interchanges.
